The traditional wooden pallet continues to act as the structural foundation of storage loading and shipping. However, innovative thinking led to the invention of a plastic pallet that allows the same goods to be transported with minimal carbon footprint.  A plastic pallet is a structure manufactured through high pressure injection molding, it is a device that facilitates the movement of products from the manufacturing center to it’s final destination.

When selecting a pallet to use, consider outweighing the pros and cons to be sure you are making the best choice for your operational needs. Plastic pallets are found to be damaged less frequently than wooden pallets and cause less splinters while being handled.   The use of plastic pallets has it’s advantages, but they may not be in your operations best interest at the end of the day.


Advantages:Heat Treat Pallets

  • Plastic Pallets have a lifespan of more than 10 years
  • They are made to be resistant to chemicals such as acids and alkali
  • Plastic Pallets are exempt from ISPM-15 Regulations and various inspections at international ports of entry.
  • Easy to maintain high level hygiene standards
  • Plastic pallets have a one-step molding manufacturing process rather than wood pallets which are built by using nails and pieces of lumber


Disadvantages:Process of Remolding a Pallet

  • The expense of plastic pallets is greater than wooden pallets
  • If damage to a plastic pallet occurs, it is not a simple process to repair. The pallet would have to be melted down and remolded
  • Forklift damage may occur
  • Plastic pallets release toxic gases when burned





Pallets come in a variety of types and whether pallets are made from wood, plastic or metal; each come with their own advantages and disadvantages. Plastic pallets may have several benefits, but ultimately the choice is in the purpose of using the product.
